
On September 2, 2020, Shanghai 3rd Intermediate Court sentenced 9 Chinese individuals 3 to 6 years in prison, for making and selling counterfeit Lego building blocks.
The court found that the 9 individuals infringed on Lego's copyright, with an illegal sale amounted to over RMB 300 million (US$42.86 million). The main offender, Li, was sentenced to 6 years in prison and imposed a fine of RMB 90 million (US$12.86 million). The other 8 offenders were respectively sentenced 3 to 4.5 years in prison and fined.
